Black Inclusion Index was established in 2020 to bring clarity and to provide factual evidence and information on the levels of inclusion of Black employees at senior levels across a range of business sectors in the UK. Black Inclusion Index is part of Black Leaders.

Black people have lived in the UK since 12th century although numbers grew in the 17th and 18th centuries because of empire expansion. Black people have made a large contribution to the growth, and development of UK society in all areas. 

Until now there has been no clear evidence to indicate the levels of inclusion of Black employees at senior levels. In light of calls for improvements in diversity, inclusion and equality across all areas of society there is a need to ensure that Black employees are not left behind. The Black Inclusion Index is a means to measure this inclusiveness

Creating inclusive workplaces which are representative of Black employees at all levels of seniority

Purpose

The first ever Black Inclusion Index will establish what the current UK business environment is like with regards to Black inclusion.

It will define the levels of inclusiveness that companies should benchmark against; highlight areas companies need to focus on for improvement; and help organisations to create inclusive workplaces which are representative of Black employees at all levels of seniority.

Our three main objectives are

To produce a robust measure of Black Inclusion in workplaces.

Provide access to a tangible metric to identify inclusion gaps.

To help organisations create inclusive workplaces.
